November 29th 2010 - Melcal Marine receive an order for their largest crane manufactured to date

MELCAL Marine signed an order for the largest capacity crane manufactured by the company to date; two SL1100CH cranes to be installed on Seajacks self-propelled Jack Up ‘Seajacks Zaratan’ being built at Lamprell Shipyard in Dubai. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 12.5T at 30m and will carry ABS and API 2C certification.

The Seajacks Zaratan is a modified version of the MSC NG5500 design, and has been designed by Seajacks specifically to service the wind farm installation market in the harsh operating environment of the North Sea, as well as to provide services to the oil and gas sectors.

The builder of the Jack Up; Lamprell Energy Ltd, have been a prominent offshore service provider in the Middle East for over 30 years, their core business being New Build of FPSOs, Lift Boats, Jack Up Rigs and turnkey Rig refurbishment. Lamprell Energy Ltd can boast over 180 Rig Refurbs since their inception and it is this, along with the completion of numerous high profile new build contracts, has cemented their place as one of the most prestigious shipyards in the Middle East.

The sale of the cranes was agreed by Mr. Harald Muehlhauser of Alatas Middle East FZE. Despite the Alatas Group only being based in the region for only 18 months the crane service company has quickly established themselves in the Middle East as an important industry player, with numerous major contracts for crane refurbishment and re-engineering projects secured and executed in the past 12 months.
